The Madrid Magic Box This Saturday hosted one of the most anticipated events for fitboxing fans. After two years of waiting, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the iconic sports venue hosted the Fitboxing World Games with the presence of almost 1,500 attendees (there were 64 teams from Spain, Portugal and Italy) between the stands to carry out Oli&L@s Benjisthe champion team of this V edition of the fitboxing world championships.
Under the presence of parents, children, grandparents or friends who came to symbolize what It has been a fun, healthy and respectful partythe final fight between the Madrid team and the Mallorcan team Dimonis Punch, the other finalists, has limited to 12 hours of competition without breaks. From when the first matches began at 11 in the morning until after 8 in the afternoon when the rhythm of the music has died down with the last hits on the bag.
“We are in shock, we still have to come to terms with it“, declared the champions, whose coach, former boxer Oliver Esteban, acknowledged “having worked very hard in microcycles, combining agility, power and resistance.” Esteban was Spanish junior boxing champion at 17 years old.
So, with this new title by Oli&L@s Benjis, the world scepter once again stays in Spain due to the impossibility of the teams from Portugal or Italy to win the Fitboxing World Games. A title that in the five editions held has always ended up on the Spanish side, but with the increasing international presence it comes to signify the great growth that fitboxing continues to experience.
One of the fashionable sports on the global scene that is celebrated without professional fitboxers and without age or sex range. Because that is another of the great attractions of this discipline, which until now had been dominated by purely female teams but which on this occasion has ended up in a mixed team (two men and two women).
Thus, the title recognized by the WBC and which designates the best fitboxing team in the world travels to the Madrid neighborhood of Sanchinarro where it will be maintained, at least, throughout 2022 with a view to the fact that in the 2023 edition the public and the participants continue to develop their interest in this discipline that does not put limits on its global growth.
