The International Skating Union increases the age limit to avoid ‘Valieva cases’

The International Skating Union (ISU) approved progressively increasing the age limit for senior skaters from 15 to 17 years to protect physical healthmental and emotional well-being of these.

The measure was adopted this Tuesday during the 58th Ordinary Congress that the organization held in Phuket (Thailand), at the proposal of the ISU Council, which specified that the 2022-2023 season will not apply any type of change.

The modifications will come into force from the following year, 2023-24, in which the age limit to compete will be raised to 16 years, to be increased in the subsequent 2024-25 and subsequent years up to 17 years of age.
